歹年冬加州海獅餓死數量創新高

【大紀元1月29日報導】（中央社聖地牙哥28日路透電）加州海獅今年受困南加州海灘並餓死的數量創新高，且大多是年幼海獅。專家擔心，海獅可能歷經有紀錄以來最慘的冬天。

海獅受難確切原因不得而知，但科學家認為天然獵物缺乏，海獅媽媽必須冒險到更遠的海域找食物，年幼海獅獨立時間變長。

加州拉古納海灘（Laguna Beach）太平洋海洋哺乳動物中心（Pacific Marine Mammal Center）主管馬塔沙（Keith Matassa）說，專家推論這個冬天溫和的聖嬰（El Nino）現象可能讓海獅賴以維生的魚群更少。

馬塔沙說，海洋哺乳動物中心這個月營救的海獅寶寶數量，已比2013年同期多2成。2013年美國漁業處（National Marine Fisheries Service）宣布，待援海獅寶寶數量是平時的5倍，且「死亡數罕見」。

馬塔沙說，儘管今年一半以上受困的海獅不到1歲，衰弱的成年海獅數量也增加。（譯者：中央社張詠晴）
