黃金通常是通膨的避險工具，但有分析師認為，雖然現在全球處於通縮的陰影中，不代表黃金就失去了投資魅力。

World Gold Trust Services 執行長 William Rhind 表示，由於通縮時各國政府通常會透過讓貨幣貶值的方式來提升競爭力，貨幣貶值會推升金價，所以即是是通縮，金價還是會上揚。去年金價上漲近3%。

至於油價下跌是否會讓生產商將黃金儲備變現，Rhind指出，俄羅斯並沒有這麼做。俄羅斯所做的是進入市場買進更多黃金。

Rhind 說，他不確定其他國家是否也會這麼做，但俄國的正面反應突顯了其他非美元貨幣去年表現不佳，已反映在金價上。
