（中央社記者廖漢原華盛頓2014年11月10日專電）國際棉業諮詢委員會日前通過，中華民國駐美代表處官員廖尉君出任常委會新任主席，這是中華民國官員首度出任此組織主席職務，具有象徵意義。

國際棉業諮詢委員會（ICAC）於2至7日在希臘舉行第73屆年會，會中無異議通過廖尉君出任常務委員會新任主席。

國際棉業諮詢委員會成立於1939年，為最早的國際商品組織（ICB）之一，委員會發布的棉花產銷預測在國際市場具高度權威性。

ICAC秘書處位於華府，由會員國駐美經濟或農業事務官員組成常務委員會，每年進行5至6次會議，為ICAC決策機構。

ICAC目前有40個會員國，中華民國自1963年加入後積極參與會務，廖尉君2013年起出任常務委員會副主席，今年5月獲提名為新任主席，這項人事案於6月獲得常務委員會推薦，並於年會中正式通過生效，任期1年。

台灣為棉花消費及紡織品研發大國，廖尉君出任ICAC常務委員會主席後，將積極促進會員國對話合作，凸顯中華民國在國際專業場域的貢獻及重要性。
